First post. First step. One step at a time.
But I will keep walking.
I have to.
I have already made a declaration to myself.
And to the world.
I am an ordinary human being, like everyone else.
I have goals, ambitions, aspirations, commitments, etc. Like everyone else.
When something is of interest to me, I jump right in. Probably like everyone else.
I invest 100% attention to my latest ‘interest’ (at the cost of other areas of my life) and make great progress.
But here’s where things get out of control. I reach a point where the going gets tough, and unsurprisingly, I move to my next ‘interest’. Even knowing that I can be great at something if I..just do it.
I confess that I am an information sucker, trying to grasp everything that is out there. So much so that I suffer from information overload. But seldom, I use that acquired wisdom in my life or put it out in the world for anyone to gain value from it.
This is what I am here for.
To make myself accountable.
No more grand plans on paper but nothing to show for it.
So here I am on this journey of self-discovery and being actionable to my goals in life.
But why here?
I am not the only one with this lack of inaction. I know each one of us has an aspiration that we want to move toward but are held back due to random excuses.
The dream just stays on the calendar/journal/habit tracker/in a dusty corner of our brain because we are not serious enough to be accountable.
I find it hard to carry on. That’s fine, no one knows about it anyway, but me.
We are social animals. We need constant interaction and motivation from fellow beings to keep moving. To keep us accountable.
Here’s what ChatGPT spurted out when asked about having an accountability partner1:
Simply having an idea or goal: You have about a 10% chance of completing it.
Consciously deciding to do it: This increases your chances to 25%.
Setting a deadline: This further boosts your chances to 40%.
Planning how to achieve it: This brings you to a 50% chance of success.
Committing to someone that you will do it: Your likelihood of success jumps to 65%.
Having a specific accountability appointment with someone you've committed to: This dramatically increases your chances to 95%.
But what if a whole community is behind you to cheer on? Wouldn’t that be great?
This is exactly what I want to achieve. A community that helps each other and me.
What is the publication about?
Weekly progress: Things that worked. Things that didn’t work and learnings out of the failures.
Share experiences and ideas: As a life coach, I am swamped with ideas and tools to navigate the mystery called life. It’s a continuous process, but it’s not rocket science. My life has improved so much over the last 1.5 years and I want to share my experiences with the world.
and planning a lot more (one step at a time)
Sharing life experiences and learned wisdom with others might help someone overcome the challenges they might be stuck with for a long time.
That’s the goal.
That’s the dream.
We are all about community. That’s how we grow and live life.
I will leave you with some lines from the poem Good Timber by Douglas Malloch:
Good timber does not grow with ease:
The stronger wind, the stronger trees;
The further sky, the greater length;
The more the storm, the more the strength.
By sun and cold, by rain and snow,
In trees and men good timbers grow.
What are you up to? Are you also in the same boat as I am? I would love to know about your journey and learnings!
